UK Police Response Is Strictly Conditional

Under the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) Security Systems Policy — and the ACPO policy before it — police in England, Wales and Northern Ireland only respond to intruder alarms that hold a valid Unique Reference Number (URN). To get and keep a URN, the alarm must be installed and maintained by an approved contractor, meet BS EN 50131 and BS 8243 (false alarm management), and be professionally monitored with confirmed activation. Too many false alarms and the URN is withdrawn. An alarm without a URN gets no police response — only whatever response you have contracted for privately.
